  5. Making the Measurement

  7. With the mires centered and in focus, one 
  8. is ready to make the measurement.  
  9. Rotate the drum on the left (horizontal) 
  10. until the horizontal plus signs are just 
  11. separated.  The horizontal lines of the 
  12. plus should be aligned-make a straight 
  13. line (top picture).  If they are not this 
  14. indicates there is corneal toricity at 
  15. some axis other than 180 or 90 degrees 
  16. (bottom picture).
